ViRTUAL CRUNCHYROLL EXPO 2021

Reunite in New Crunchy City

The second year creating an all-virtual anime event with industry and fan panels, guest meet & greets, live art, entertainment and more.

Creative Goal:

Due to a change in web CMS post-event, limitations caused the previous experience to fall flat and posed obstacles in creating a truly personalized and dynamic experience. This year's goal is to enhance the fan journey and user experience flow through creative messaging strategy and thorough website executions.

 

Final Solution:

In 2020, our goal was to take our fans to another world, where they could escape the confines of quarantine.  For 2021, we wanted our fan family to reunite online in a vibrant, "newstalgic" (modern & nostalgic) New Crunchy City reflective of our community. The team is currently in progress of exploring and troubleshooting various topics from creative messaging, website content hierarchy, and user experience - taking deep dives into themes, functionality and content.

ViRTUAL CRUNCHYROLL EXPO 2020

Adventures in New Crunchy City

2020 posed a new adventure for the Crunchyroll anime expo - it went completely virtual.

Creative Goal:

To deliver a completely virtual expo experience that felt like the user was traveling through an in-person event. Due to the quick pivot to virtual, it was necessary to adapt to an constantly changing  landscape to execute the event.

 

Final Solution:

To mimic the experience of an in-person convention, the team developed New Crunchy City, a Japanese district-inspired world paired with crosswalk graphics to visually guide users through the virtual experience. The districts allowed fans to navigate through large amounts of content and programming while still providing distinct areas to explore.

CRUNCHYROLL ANIME AWARDS

A Celebration of the Anime Universe

The Crunchyroll Anime Awards recognizes achievements for artistic and technical merits in the anime industry.

Creative Goal:

To reinvent the Anime Awards 2021 brand to be more reflective of the Crunchyroll fandom - less formal, more vibrant.

 

Final Solution:

Taking inspiration from parallels such as celebration & fireworks, and the real & the anime universes, a colorful and dynamic visual direction was formed. Crunchyroll brings all of the anime universes together under one love for anime. Just as each individual anime universe has its own significant impact on the fandom, when they collide, they create spectacular fireworks.

All things Black in Tech

AfroTech is a conference experience bringing together engineers, venture capitalists, recruiters, technologists, and culture enthusiasts from all over the world. It is the definitive conference that brings leaders in technology and business together to exchange ideas and build a strong Black tech community.

Creative Goal:
To create a versatile and colorful graphic theme that is representative of the conference's mission.

 

Final Solution:

This visual concept takes inspiration from the vibrancy of the Black culture, the use of symbols in Black tribal patterns, and nods to tech with digital code.

Sephora Store Leadership Conference

Dr. Jart+ is one of 70+ renowned beauty brands unveiling new products at the Sephora Store Leadership conference.

 

Creative Goal:
Dr.Jart+ aimed to create an experience reflecting the moisturizing properties of their new cream amidst extreme climates.

Final Solution:

The team designed a completely hand-carved and hand-painted arctic cave complete with backlit signage, an oozing giant product tube, ice display shelves, and an interactive acrylic-ice jenga FAQ display.

SAN FRANCISCO SYMPHONY GALA 2018

Dark and Moody Elegance

The 2018 San Francisco Symphony Gala took cues of sultry, dark colors, with bold oversized floral patterns.  Mixed metals and velvet fabrics elevated the look, juxtaposed with translucent and transparent panels inspired by lenticular illusions.

Warhol Meets Havana Nights

Bright colors and neon lights could not have been better matched with Warhol-inspired pop-culture themed graphics. The modern, tropical floral and geometric patterns create a graphically stunning backdrop for a fun and electric party vibe.

PALO ALTO NETWORKS HOLIDAY 2018

Game On

Levi's Stadium's massive four-story event space was the perfect venue for a historic party of game eras. Each floor was designated a different era, vintage, analog board games, 80's digital arcade games, physical outdoor sports, and futuristic virtual reality. Complete with themed graphic decor, interactive photo activations and glowing food displays, this holiday party did not disappoint.
